Brooklyn Brewery BREUKELEN ABBEY ALE a winter seasonal beer, is brewed in the style made famous by the monastery breweries of Belgium. Abbey is made with a blend of nine European malts, and fermented with an imported Belgian yeast. Abbey is a traditionally brewed Belgian "dubbel," a strong russet-brown ale with a spicy aroma reminiscent of chocolate, cloves, dates and figs. It contains one surprising ingredient, sugar. Many Belgian beers are brewed with a type of caramelized rock candy called candii sugar. For Breukelen Abbey Ale, we use raw Dominican sugar from the nearby Domino sugar refinery.
