BURP Sour Beers Competition Results
In the debut competition as your new Co-Ministers of Culture, we registered nine entries for our Sour Beers competition in conjunction with Brewers and Drinkers Around Silver Spring (BADASS) [https://www.badass-beer.com/]. We found more than half – well, five, to be precise – registered as different lambic fruit variants: blackberry/raspberry, 2 cherries, mango and peach. Another two were mixed-fermentation sours, and one Flanders Red and Oud Bruin a piece.
Our judging team of BURPers Wendy Aaronson, Janet Crowe and Greg Leifler – along with Adam Stine of BADASS – selected BADASS brewer Colin Heikes’ mixed fermentation House Culture Saison as the first place winner, followed by immediate past BURP Fearless Leader Dave White placing second with his Mango Like Lambic and new Fearless Leader Mike Reinitz trailing in third with his Cuvee Mihaly 2015 (Cherry). Thanks to all who submitted an entry in these challenging categories!
